Hawaii 2010

≈
Early September we were very fortunate to be able to go to Kauai to be present for Brady & Illeana's wedding, as well as enjoy our first big vacation with the whole family (Gannon's) and our dear friends.
Unfortunately our trip didn't start out on a good note. The night before we were supposed to leave for our trip, Quinn had a temp of 105 and took a trip to her Pediatrician who then sent us to the ER at Children's (at this point her white blood count was 33, the norm is 11 to 14). At the hospital, Quinn had a few "tests" done; chest x-ray, urine test, nasal swabs and multiple checks on her temp, ears, chest, eyes, etc, as well as an IV to give her fluid and some medication (that was interesting in its own self; she wanted that thing off!). Long story short, our poor Quinn was admitted to spend the night... by the time we got a room, it was around 1:30 am and she was DONE! I saw a side of my daughter that I never saw and it was scary... she was so exhausted and WAY overtired that she would literally open her eyes so huge and scream at the top of her lungs and just sob. It was not fun and I wanted all the nurse's to just leave her alone, but knew that they were just doing there job and trying to help her. Another scary aspect to this adventure, was that the hematology team came into her room and started asking us about our family history and blood cancer. We were a mess, no other way to explain it and it was obvious that we were not going to get on a plane to go to Hawaii. The next day they finally had a verdict for what was wrong with her... she had contracted Adenovirus. After much stress, lack of sleep, confusion and a lot of prayers, she was discharged.
The next day she had a follow-up appointment with her Pediatrician and he said she was responding well and that we had the green light to fly. So, with much excitement we got all of our travel plans rearranged and headed to the airport (via Miggie Keuler... thank you, Miggie and Andrea for getting us there!). Being our first time traveling with the twins and Quinn still on the mend, we were a bit nervous, but just went with it. The flight was okay... the twins had their good moments and their not-so-good moments and we made it work. However, Quinn started to go down hill... she started sneezing like crazy, getting watery eyes and snot that wouldn't stop. Basically she was now going through the "cold" part of the virus, which we did not know would happen. The virus did eventually run it's course and she did have a great time on the island, but the virus did hit Carter (barely), Mom, Dad, Glamma and Poppa. :) Woo-Hoo!
In the end we made it to beautiful Kauai and we were able to be there for Brady and Illeana's amazing wedding. It was perfect and we enjoyed seeing them so happy and in love. Love you B & Illi.
Enjoy the pic's (the good and the bad!). ;)

Visit from cousin, Becky!
Last week one of my fav cousins, Becky came to visit from Cleveland, OH. It was so wonderful to see her and catch up. It has been over 10 years since she has been out to Seattle. We had a fun, relaxed time with her having family dinners, market walks, dinner with the Bakkers and a visit to Deception Pass. Q&C were drawn to her immediately and she was drawn to them, stepping right in and offering a lot of help and love. Love you Becs!

Dad's Evening Out
Tonight Shane and Bry headed out for dinner, just the guys. So it was me and the kiddos, plus El and Zig. I picked them up from daycare and headed home (singing ABC the entire ride, as Q&C kept saying, "more, more, pees!")... got home and we all had dinner together and then I let them play for a bit. After playing it was bath time... let me just start by saying that Shane is typically home when Q&C get their baths... Mom + kid = team, as does Dad + kid = team, well Shane was out, so I was on my own. I have a system when it is just me and bath time occurs... I put one kiddo in their crib with books, toys, play some music and am able to somewhat chat with them while in the bathroom with the other kiddo who is taking a bath. I then bring the clean kid into their room, where the other kid is (in their crib, as mentioned above), dry them off, diapers, lotion, hair brushed, jam's on and teeth brushed. Whew, one down, one to go! I then leave clean kid in their crib with the same set-up; books, toys, etc. Take care of the bath #2 and follow the same process. When all is said and done, kids are clean, bathroom is a bit of a mess, kids bedroom is a bit of a mess and I am (sometimes) soaked and ready for them to go to bed. :)
Well tonight, Q&C were super silly and Carts wanted to hang out and dance with his sister in her crib while I cleaned up their room and bathroom after bath time... they were laughing, dancing (music was still on) and just being fun. Love you to pieces you two.
Here's to Dad, who deserves a night out (and clean babies)!
